Arizona Department of Health Services
Mask Use in Schools and COVID19 Reporting Requirements
The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) issued additional clarity on the use of masks in schools. The key takeway:
In Executive Order 2020-51, Governor Ducey required all school districts and charter schools to develop and implement a policy to require face coverings, such as face masks or face shields, for all staff and students over the age of 5 and to develop and adopt a COVID-19 mitigation plan prior to opening a school building for on-site support services or in-person instruction. These two critical requirements combined with the guidance provided in the Arizona Department of Education’s Arizona Roadmap for Reopening Schools and the Arizona Department of Health Services’ Guidance for Safely Returning to In-Person Instruction provide a framework for all schools to prepare for a successful and safe re-entry.
Arizona Department of Health Services issued an emergency measure requiring Arizona schools, child care centers, and shelters to report outbreaks of COVID19 to their local health departments.
This new emergency measure aimed at improving the public health response to outbreaks applies to:
- public schools
- charter schools
- private schools with students from kinder-12th grade
- child care establishments and shelters
