High School Science Teacher, Ms. Doran, and 2nd Grade Teacher, Ms. Engols, have put their heads together to create a special Friday program called STEAM Up! for 2nd graders who have completed all of their work for the week. The name of the program is a play on the acronym for “Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math” used in the education field. These 2nd graders are invited to the High School’s science classroom, where Ms. Doran and her high school student volunteers have a new science adventure ready every week.
The students listen as Ms. Doran tells them about a new scientific mission and the project that they must accomplish in order to complete the mission. For example, if the students are on a mission to Mars to learn about the planet, they will need to construct rocket ships in order to get there (paper towel roll and tin foil rocket ships, that is)! Another adventure might involve an Arctic expedition to study “core samples” and learn about polarity and the age of the Earth. STEAM Up! takes science and art and creatively blends them together for a fun twist on learning.
See you all on December 3rd!!! Thank you Kindergarten for the Holiday Cheer..
Did you know…
Arizona State Law offers an Income Tax Credit for donations made to public charter schools in support of extracurricular activities or character education programs.
What it is…
A Tax Credit is a dollar-for-dollar amount that may be subtracted from a taxpayer’s state income tax. Individuals may contribute up to $200, and couples filing jointly may contribute as much as $400.
The best part is you don’t have to have a child enrolled in our school to participate! So, please spread the word!
How to donate…
It’s easy! Fill out the tax credit form (found here: https://casschoolsdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/cas-school-tax-credit-pamphlet-2017.pdf), include a check to the school of your choice, and deliver it to 900 Carmelita Drive, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635.
CAS is grateful for your support and wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving!
