Center for Academic Success Sierra Vista – COVID19 Closure Plan
Teachers will continue to offer instruction and enrichment through distance learning using Moodle, PLP, IXL, Class Dojo, SeeSaw, Think Central, and paper packets.
Our main priority is to help all of our students to be successful during these difficult times. We understand that different circumstances exist for every student. Some may not be able to complete work during this time, while others may enjoy engaging in some of these opportunities. We do not want our students to be penalized for not having the tools necessary for completing the fourth quarter due to COVID19, therefore there will be no penalty for late work and no student will receive a zero for work not turned in. Teachers should provide work that reinforces concepts already taught. There should be a very
limited amount of new material given to students.
Teachers at CAS are reaching out in a variety of ways to continue to support students and will assign grades for each student’s individual circumstances. This could be a Pass/ Fail (“P” or “F”), an Incomplete (“I”), or a letter grade based on the work a student has turned in. We completed three fourths of the school year in a physical setting and believe that should be the largest indicator of the student’s abilities, therefore no student’s grade will drop below the grade they received for third quarter.
We also want everyone to know that all statewide assessments are cancelled for the 2019-2020 school year. Teachers will continually offer instruction and enrichment opportunities on a regular basis through the end of the grading period, May 22, 2020. We appreciate everything our staff is doing to keep our students connected during a time of uncertainty. We will continue to be available to students and parents with any questions.
Please be advised that starting Monday, April 20th, there will be a change to the Food Service schedule.
Meals will be provided on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesday and Thursday service will include two days worth of meals.
This is due to providing our Food Service employees increased social distancing and less exposure to the public.
New student enrollment, including Kindergarten, will begin after the state-wide stay-at-home order is lifted and everyone returns to work. At this time we are not taking in any new applications for the 2020-2021 school year. We will post information here and on our Facebook page when our offices are open again. Thank you.

Dear CAS Families:
Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman announced the extension of Arizona school closures through the end of the school year. The extension follows updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and an announcement from the White House extending physical distancing guidelines until April 30, 2020.
As a result, we will continue our current efforts regarding the education of our students.
Please remember that if your student is able to access work online, there is no need for paper packets. All work, whether online or paper, may be submitted via email if possible. Paper packets are only for those families who cannot access their work otherwise.
We ask that anyone on campus practice recommended social distancing guidelines.
CAS Elementary/Middle School-

Dear High School Families,
CAS is beginning its 4th quarter of instruction starting this week starting on Wednesday, March 25th. In response to schools having to be physically closed during this pandemic, CAS High School is continuing instruction online. For students who do not have access to online service or a computer, physical copies of each week’s assignments may be picked up at the school during limited hours to avoid unnecessary potential exposure to the virus. We know these are trying times and we are attempting to adapt as best as possible.
If your child’s teacher, instructor or someone else from the CAS staff has not reached out to you, please call and leave us a message as to whether or not your student will be able to access their education online or if we need to provide them with paper-based lessons. Please call and leave your message at 520-439-3500.
For physical copies of assignments (paper packets):
The CAS High School building will be open this Wednesday from 8:00am until noon. Parents and students can come in to pick up paper packets for each classes’ assignments for this week. There will be tables in the hallway with teachers’ names marked on them. Each teacher’s class will be labelled with the week’s assignments available to be picked up. Please limit the number of people coming into the building. It would be best if your child came in, since she or he knows which classes they need.
After this week, the CAS High School only will be open on Mondays from 8:00 am until noon for assignment pick up and drop off. Students can drop off the previous week’s assignments and pick up the current week’s assignments then.
We understand that this is a limited amount of time. Again, we are trying to limit the potential of exposure to the virus both for you and for our staff. These times coincide with our K-8 students/parents who will be picking up and dropping off assignments in the cafeteria on Wednesday’s weekly.
For Online instruction:
CAS High School has converted all of our classes into online Moodle classrooms. Each of your child’s classes has a separate Moodle class. All classes can be accessed through the school website at http://www.casschools.com. Your child will have the same CAS teachers. Click on the Information tab, scroll down to Online Classes and then MoodleCAS. This is where your student can log in.
Note: Teachers will provide your login information for MoodleCAS. If your child does not see all her/his class listed when they log in right away, please be patient. Their teachers are still rostering each class.
Once your child is logged in, she/he will see their classes. They can click on each class to access content, communicate with the teacher, and turn in assignments. Your child also can communicate directly with his/her teacher using e-mail. Your teacher’s e-mail should be on the Moodle site. All CAS teachers’ e-mails are listed on the casschools.com website.
For students using PLP (independent study) classes, they will access their classes through the same casschools.com, Information tab. They already know their log in information for PLP and they will be working on their independent study through Mrs. Marshall. Mrs. Marshall will not have a Moodle class.
Students will continue using IXL for their math classes. They already should know what their log in information is for IXL.
We are asking parents to complete a very short survey to help us to better help your child. It is available at: bit.ly/cassurvey2020
We know there is going to be a learning curve in this process. We apologize for the limited hours of public access to the school. We are hoping that flexibility will be key for everyone’s success.
Center for Academic Success
For our K-8 families:
Online and paper-based education will begin on Wednesday, March 25. If your child’s teacher or someone else from the CAS staff has not reached out to you, please call and leave us a message as to whether or not your student will be able to access their education online or if we need to provide them with paper-based lessons. Please call and leave your message at 520-439-3518.
If we have already made contact with you, and your student will be paper-based, then those paper-based assignments will be available in our cafeteria on Wednesdays from 8am to noon. Please sign in next to your student’s name so that we know you have picked up your student’s packet. Then the next week you will return the packet to be graded and will pick up the next week of work.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition to this very different format of learning. Again, if you have questions, please call us and leave a message and we will return your call.
To the extent possible, teachers will begin offering online and paper education beginning Wednesday, March 25th. We will set up a limited window of time for pick up and drop off for those students in need of paper assignments.
Breakfast and lunch will be served on a to-go basis from 8:00-10:00 a.m., starting on Monday, March 22, 2020.
We encourage our students and families to make use of the online learning tools already available to them, such as IXL and Reading A-Z, during this extended break, and will be reaching out with additional materials beginning Wednesday, March 25th.
