The Center for Academic Success will hold its semi-annual blood drive on Monday, April 27th from 9:00 – 2:00 pm in conjunction with the American Red Cross. The event was rescheduled from April 15th to allow for standardized testing to take place at CAS schools uninterrupted. Please note, this event is open to the community and while walk-ins are welcome, you may schedule your appointment to donate by calling Wendy Koop at 520-439-3500. The blood drive will take place in the Sierra Vista campus’ administration building located at 900 Carmelita Drive. Students and community members wishing to donate must be 18 — 16 with signed parent consent form — and present a valid, state-issued photo ID or American Red Cross donor card.
Now that the school year is in full swing, CAS students are participating in a variety of enriching activities; the semiannual CAS blood drive which took place September 9th was a prime example of service learning to benefit the greater community. CAS had a total of 45 units donated which represent 135 potential saved lives through blood transfusions.
Four times a year, CAS partners with the American Red Cross to offer a community blood drive for staff, students, and Sierra Vista residents who are all invited to donate to this worthwhile cause. Additionally, high school students earn volunteer hours by helping to set up and supervise the blood drive while learning about the life-saving medical technology. Students and community members age sixteen or older are eligible to donate though they will be required to answer routine medical questions and present a photo ID. Minors (under age 18) also must have a signed parental consent form in order to donate. Thanks to the high school volunteers and our blood drive coordinator, Wendy Koop, for making this event such a success. Another big thank you to all our our donors without whom none of this would be possible. Be sure to check for photos of the event coming soon to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CASSierraVista.
The Center for Academic Success will host its fourth blood drive this year on May 14th, 2014, from 10 am – 2 pm at the Sierra Vista campus. The event is open to the public. Partnering with the American Red Cross, CAS participates in blood drives as an important way to foster community involvement in our students and to raise awareness for diseases which can be cured or abated with blood transfusions. In the past, CAS has been recognized by the American Red Cross for its outstanding participation in this critical-need area. To participate, please contact the high school office at 520-439-3500 and sign up for your appointment time. Walk-ins will also be accepted during the event as space allows. Please bring photo ID, blood donor card (if applicable) and be prepared to answer some minor medical questions. Students ages 16-18 may participate only with parental consent. Please download the consent form here. For more information about how to volunteer with the American Red Cross or ways blood donations save lives, please visit the local chapter’s website, here.
